Do's and Don'ts of keeping bettas
Do's
- Do provide your betta with clean water and frequent water changes (esp. if in an unfiltered tank)
- Do use a tank 1 gallon or larger
- Do feed your betta meaty foods. Betta pellets, freeze dried, or frozen foods
- Use a good heater. Keep temp 78°-82°
- Do be very very careful with tank mates. Bettas are generally better off alone. They can be very aggressive and can often be victims to fin-nippers.
- Do make sure your tank has a lid.
- Do remove any food that is left uneaten after 5 minutes.
- Do remember the dechlorinator when you do your water changes. Tap water contains chlorine, which is very very bad for fish.
- And to help keep them clean and healthy do use ................
Ocean Nutrition Atison's Betta Spa Additive/Supplement |
 |
For the first time, available for the Betta hobbyist a wild almond leaf extract, and a lot more. Designed in an easy-to-use format that is clean, complete and consistent. Atison’s Betta Spa contains four key elements essential for a healthy active Betta. Wild almond leaf extract creates a natural environment for the Betta, helping promote activity and more vibrant colors. Yucca extract helps bind the ammonia in the water making for fewer water changes and lowers the PH, absorbing harmful chemicals. Calcium is added for strong fin growth and scale development and is needed to activate the muscles. Salt the key element in creating a healthy balanced environment. Now the hobbyist can have what the professional breeders have used and tested for years. |
Don'ts
- Don't keep a male with another male. Unless you want a dead male.
- Don't keep a male with a female unless breeding (and then it's only for a very short period of time and then she's removed).
- Don't put the tank in direct sunlight or near vents or drafty areas. Fluctuations in temp can be stressful for your betta friend.
- Don't overfeed.
